Failure analysis lab for material and batch differences

A coating has changed, an adhesive batch behaves differently, or an unexpected residue appears on a plastic part. Which chemical differences deserve investigation? Chengfenbao is a failure analysis lab focused on composition evidence. We compare the affected specimen with suitable reference material and connect the findings to your stated problem. Failure analysis can narrow the investigation, but a chemical difference alone does not establish the cause. Production history, exposure and engineering observations remain part of your team's assessment.

Discuss your sample

What we analyze

Projects cover coatings and paints, inks, adhesives and sealants, rubber and elastomers, plastics and masterbatch, additives and raw materials, cleaners, lubricating greases, concrete admixtures, and cosmetics and personal care products. Describe the actual specimen and its history before shipping; we confirm which sample forms can be received.

Matched satisfactory and affected batches are particularly useful. Keep their labels, sampling positions and handling history clear. If the concern is a deposit, stain or unexpected residue, identify where it occurs and provide unaffected background material where possible. Do not clean away the feature you want investigated before discussing sample preparation.

How we work

FTIR can compare material-family evidence or investigate a suitable residue. GC-MS and GC-MS/MS address relevant organic differences, while high-resolution LC-MS and LC-MS/MS help investigate suitable additives or unknown compounds. The comparison is designed around the observed issue rather than an unsupported assumption about its cause.

XRF, XRD, ICP-MS and ICP-OES can investigate elemental or crystalline differences where relevant. Solids content, moisture, pH and UV-Vis may provide further chemical context. The report separates directly observed differences, plausible interpretations and questions that remain open because the submitted specimens or analytical methods cannot resolve them.

What you receive

The conclusion card answers the agreed question in plain language and relates the findings to the submitted sample. We distinguish analytical evidence from background information supplied with the inquiry.

The component table lists supported identities and estimated proportions. Some entries may be chemical families rather than individual compounds. Proportions are semi-quantitative estimates, not quantitative measurements; a complete formula is not promised.

The data appendix records the methods used and supporting evidence. A separate account of what could not be determined explains unresolved components, overlapping findings and relevant sample limitations, so your team can judge what the report supports.

How to start

Tell us the product type and use, available sample quantity, any known formulation information, what you want to find out and whether a reference sample is available. We reply within 24 hours and agree the analytical scope before issuing a fixed quotation in USD.

Samples accepted worldwide; contact us before shipping. We confirm sample quantity, packaging and documents with you first. Samples already in China can go by domestic courier. Request an NDA before sharing confidential details if needed. The quotation confirms the project schedule and delivery arrangements.

Frequently asked questions

Will the report prove the root cause?
That cannot be promised. The report describes supported chemical findings and their limitations. Establishing a cause may also require production records, application observations and further work by your engineering team.
Why is an unaffected reference useful?
A reference helps distinguish normal material chemistry from an unusual feature. Choose material with a comparable formulation and history, and explain any known differences in processing or storage.
Can you investigate a small deposit?
Contact us with its location, approximate quantity and surrounding material. The available amount and background interference determine which chemical questions can be addressed and whether the sample is suitable.
Should I send a whole part or a separated layer?
Discuss the feature first. Separating a layer may concentrate the evidence but can also introduce contamination or lose context. We agree the specimen and receiving arrangements before shipment.
