Impurity analysis for unknown components and contamination questions

Is an unexpected component present, and what evidence supports its identity? Impurity analysis starts with the difference between a named target and an unknown feature. Chengfenbao investigates suitable organic compounds, elemental contributions and residues in formulated products and raw materials. We agree whether the question is identification, comparison or an estimate of contribution. An unexpected signal may originate from the material, its packaging or sample handling, so background information and a suitable reference are valuable when interpreting the result.

Discuss your sample

What we analyze

We investigate impurities in coatings and paints, inks, adhesives and sealants, rubber and elastomers, plastics and masterbatch, additives and raw materials, cleaners, lubricating greases, concrete admixtures, and cosmetics and personal care products. Tell us what you expected to find and what prompted the concern. Receiving arrangements and the actual sample form are confirmed before shipment.

Examples include a retained organic ingredient, an unusual elemental difference between lots or a residue affecting a material comparison. Provide an unaffected reference or packaging background where available. A sample taken with different tools or stored in a different container can introduce differences unrelated to the original product.

How we work

GC-MS and GC-MS/MS investigate suitable volatile or accessible organic compounds. High-resolution LC-MS and LC-MS/MS support suitable non-volatile compound questions. FTIR can help identify a larger isolated contribution or distinguish a residue from the bulk material. Method selection depends on the target chemistry and the sample matrix.

ICP-MS, ICP-OES and XRF provide relevant elemental evidence; XRD can investigate suitable crystalline material. Wet-chemistry measurements such as moisture, solids content, pH or UV-Vis may help describe the matrix. We explain whether a finding identifies a compound, indicates a chemical family or only establishes an elemental difference.

What you receive

The conclusion card answers the agreed question in plain language and relates the findings to the submitted sample. We distinguish analytical evidence from background information supplied with the inquiry.

The component table lists supported identities and estimated proportions. Some entries may be chemical families rather than individual compounds. Proportions are semi-quantitative estimates, not quantitative measurements; a complete formula is not promised.

The data appendix records the methods used and supporting evidence. A separate account of what could not be determined explains unresolved components, overlapping findings and relevant sample limitations, so your team can judge what the report supports.

How to start

Tell us the product type and use, available sample quantity, any known formulation information, what you want to find out and whether a reference sample is available. We reply within 24 hours and agree the analytical scope before issuing a fixed quotation in USD.

Samples accepted worldwide; contact us before shipping. We confirm sample quantity, packaging and documents with you first. Samples already in China can go by domestic courier. Request an NDA before sharing confidential details if needed. The quotation confirms the project schedule and delivery arrangements.

Frequently asked questions

Can you find every impurity in an unknown sample?
No. No selected method set establishes the absence of every possible component. We define the investigation and explain detection, sample and interpretation limits rather than promise a universal screen.
What changes if I can name the suspected compound?
A named target helps focus method selection and interpretation. Share the name, any supporting evidence and the reason for concern so we can agree an appropriate scope before receiving the sample.
Does identification include a quantitative concentration?
Not automatically. Identification, semi-quantitative estimation and quantitative measurement are different tasks. We state the agreed basis and do not present an estimated proportion as a quantitative result.
Can analysis show where contamination came from?
It can provide clues for comparison with suspected sources. A chemical match alone may not establish a unique source, especially if the same ingredient is common to several materials.
